To be dependent on others, perhaps it’s not what we think it is. Perhaps it’s nothing but pride that makes you think that you’re proud to be independent. But in a good world it’s probably a bad thing, a crazy illusion, like suggesting that a tree stands free, or that a star shines by its own power.
